Coloradans discuss how to build a safer, healthier state
Ever done the wave at a stadium? You may want to consider it next time you visit a clinic or hospital, as well.
The federal Partnership for Patients is urging patients’ loved ones to Do the WAVE.
WAVE stands for:
Wash or clean hands before, during, and after visiting a healthcare facility.
Ask questions of doctors, nurses, and other healthcare providers.
Vaccinate against the flu each year, unless otherwise directed by your doctor or other healthcare provider.
Ensure safety by not touching medical equipment unless absolutely necessary.
At any given time, one in 20 hospital patients has a healthcare-associated infection, the Partnership notes.
“As a family member or friend who assists in patient care, you are a ‘caregiver’ and, therefore, a member of the healthcare team. Caregivers have an important role in preventing healthcare-associated infections,” it concludes.

When we learn from today’s errors, we can prevent them from happening tomorrow.
